Variegated Gasteria Succulents
Variegated Gasteria is a slow-growing, compact succulent belonging to the Asphodelaceae family — closely related to Aloe and Haworthia. The term variegated means the leaves have beautiful patterns or streaks of cream, yellow, or white mixed with green, giving it a striking ornamental look.

🌱 Description:

  • Leaves: Thick, fleshy, tongue-shaped or lance-like leaves with smooth or slightly rough textures. The variegation appears as bands, spots, or marbling.
  • Color: Green with white, yellow, or cream streaks; sometimes pinkish tones appear under bright sunlight or stress.
  • Growth habit: Forms rosettes or pairs of opposite leaves; grows slowly and may produce small offsets (pups) around the base.
  • Flowers: Produces tubular, pinkish-red to orange flowers on tall stalks, often blooming in spring or early summer.

🌤️ Light Requirements:

  • Prefers bright, indirect sunlight.
  • Tolerates low light better than many succulents, making it great for indoor spaces.
  • Avoid harsh afternoon sun — it can scorch the variegated areas.

💧 Watering:

  • Water sparingly — allow soil to dry out completely between waterings.
  • Overwatering can cause root rot; always ensure good drainage.
  • In winter, reduce watering frequency since growth slows down.

🌿 Soil:

  • Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix.
  • You can improve drainage by adding perlite, coarse sand, or pumice.

🌡️ Temperature:

  • Thrives in 18–30°C (65–85°F).
  • Protect from frost — not frost-tolerant. Keep indoors during cold months.

🌸 Propagation:

  • Best propagated through offsets (pups) that grow at the base.
  • Let the pup callous for a day or two before planting in dry soil.

🪴 Common Care Tips:

  • Avoid over-fertilizing — feed once or twice a year during the growing season (spring–summer) with a diluted succulent fertilizer.
  • Rotate the plant occasionally so it grows evenly.
  • Watch for mealybugs or root rot if overwatered.
