1. Sempervivum tectorum, commonly called Common Houseleek or Hens and Chicks, is a hardy rosette-forming succulent native to mountainous regions of Europe. It produces clusters of fleshy green leaves, often with red or purple tips. The main rosette eventually sends up a tall flower stalk with star-shaped pink or reddish flowers, after which that rosette dies—but its offsets (“chicks”) continue growing.

   ☀️ Care tips

   • Light: Give it plenty of bright light and several hours of sunlight daily.
   • Water: Water deeply, then allow the soil to dry completely before watering again.
   • Soil: Use a gritty, fast-draining succulent mix.
   • Pot: Excellent drainage is essential; terracotta pots are a good choice.
   • Temperature: Very cold-hardy compared with many succulents and can tolerate frost once established.
   • Humidity: Prefers relatively dry conditions and good airflow.
   • Fertilizer: Usually needs very little. If desired, use a diluted succulent fertilizer once or twice during active growth.
