Sedum treleasei is a beautiful, easy-to-grow succulent , popular for its soft blue-green leaves and chubby rosette form. It belongs to the Crassulaceae family and is closely related to Sedum pachyphyllum and Sedum clavatum.

🌿 Appearance

  • Leaves: Plump, cylindrical to teardrop-shaped leaves that are powdery blue-green with a waxy coating (farina).
  • Color: The leaf tips often turn pink or reddish when exposed to bright sunlight or cool temperatures.
  • Growth habit: Forms tight rosettes on short stems that can trail or spread, creating a mound-like cluster.
  • Flowers: In late winter or spring, it produces small yellow star-shaped flowers on short stalks.

🌞 Light Requirements

  • Thrives in bright light or full sun.
  • In partial shade, the plant stays more green; in full sun, it develops pinkish-red tips.
  • Indoors, place near a south or west-facing window.

💧 Watering

  • Follow the “soak and dry” method: water deeply, then allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again.
  • Overwatering causes leaves to fall off or rot.
  • Water less during winter dormancy.

🌱 Soil

  • Needs well-draining soil, such as a cactus/succulent mix or a mix of garden soil, perlite, and sand (2:1:1 ratio).
  • Avoid heavy, compact soil that retains moisture.

🌡️ Temperature

  • Prefers warm conditions: 18–30°C (65–85°F).
  • Can tolerate mild cold down to around 5°C (41°F), but protect from frost.

🌸 Propagation

  • Very easy to propagate from:
    • Leaf cuttings: Allow leaves to callus before placing on soil.
    • Stem cuttings: Root quickly in dry, well-draining soil.
    • Offsets (pups): Separate and replant mature offsets.

🪴 Care Tips

  • Avoid touching leaves often — the powdery coating can rub off, leaving marks.
  • Prune leggy stems to encourage compact growth.
  • Fertilize lightly once a year in spring with a diluted succulent fertilizer.
