Red Pagoda Succulent

The Red Pagoda is a stunning and unique succulent known for its stacked, triangular leaves that form a tower-like or pagoda-shaped structure — hence the name. It’s a popular choice for adding vibrant color and architectural interest to succulent collections or rock gardens.

🌸 Botanical Details

  • Scientific Name: Crassula capitella ‘Red Pagoda’
  • Family: Crassulaceae
  • Type: Perennial, evergreen succulent

🌞 Appearance

  • The leaves are green at the base and bright red to crimson at the tips, especially when exposed to full sunlight.
  • The leaves are fleshy, triangular, and stacked in opposite pairs, forming striking geometric shapes.
  • It typically grows up to 15–20 cm (6–8 inches) tall and spreads as it matures, forming clusters.

☀️ Light Requirements

  • Prefers bright light to full sun for several hours daily.
  • The more sunlight, the deeper and more vibrant the red color becomes.
  • In low light, it may turn greener and grow leggy.

💧 Watering

  • Use the “soak and dry” method — water deeply, then allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again.
  • Overwatering can cause root rot, so ensure good drainage.
  • Water less frequently in winter when growth slows down.

🌱 Soil

  • Needs well-draining succulent or cactus mix.
  • You can add perlite or coarse sand to improve drainage.

🌡️ Temperature

  • Thrives in warm climates (18–27°C / 65–80°F).
  • Protect from frost, as it is not cold-hardy (below 5°C / 40°F).
  • Ideal for indoor pots or outdoor containers in mild climates.

🌼 Flowers

  • Blooms in summer, producing tiny white or pinkish flowers on short stalks.
  • The flowers attract pollinators like bees.

🌿 Propagation

  • Easily propagated from stem or leaf cuttings.
  • Let cuttings dry for a day or two before planting in dry soil to prevent rot.

⚠️ Care Tips

  • Avoid letting water sit in the rosettes.
  • Rotate the plant occasionally to ensure even sunlight exposure.
  • Pinch off leggy growth to encourage a fuller shape.
