Echeveria ‘Lotus’ is a type of rosette-forming succulent in the Echeveria genus, part of the Crassulaceae family. It's often admired for its symmetrical, lotus-like shape, which gives it its name.

🌿 Appearance

  • Rosette shape: Compact and perfectly symmetrical, resembling a lotus flower.
  • Leaves:
    • Fleshy, spoon-shaped, and slightly pointed at the tips.
    • Color varies from silvery blue-green to soft pink depending on light, temperature, and stress levels.
    • Often has a powdery farina (waxy coating) that protects it from sunburn and water loss.
  • Size: Usually grows 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) in diameter, though it can get larger in ideal conditions.

🌞 Growing Conditions

Light:

  • Prefers bright, indirect sunlight or several hours of direct morning sun.
  • Indoors, place near a south- or east-facing window.
  • Outdoors, give partial sun and some protection from intense afternoon heat.

Temperature:

  • Thrives between 18–27°C (65–80°F).
  • Not frost-tolerant — bring it indoors if temperatures drop below 5°C (41°F).

Soil:

  • Needs well-draining succulent or cactus mix.
  • You can make your own with 2 parts potting soil, 1 part perlite, 1 part coarse sand.

Watering:

  • Use the “soak and dry” method — water deeply, then let the soil dry out completely before watering again.
  • Overwatering is the main cause of rot.

Fertilizer:

  • Light feeder — use a diluted succulent fertilizer in the growing season (spring–summer) once a month.

🌼 Propagation

Echeveria ‘Lotus’ can be easily propagated from:

  • Leaf cuttings: Let detached leaves callous for 1–2 days before placing on dry soil.
  • Offsets (pups): Remove small rosettes that form around the base and replant.
