zebrian Huernia zebrina — also known as the “Lifesaver Plant”

🌿 General Description
•    Scientific name: Huernia zebrina
•    Common names: Lifesaver Plant, Little Owl Eyes
•    Family: Apocynaceae (milkweed family)
This succulent forms low, sprawling clumps of fleshy, green to gray-green stems with small soft teeth along the edges. Its most striking feature is the flower—a star-shaped bloom with bold red, yellow, or cream stripes (like a zebra pattern), and a thick, shiny red or brown circular center (the “lifesaver ring”).
______________
🌸 Flowers
•    Shape: Star-like with a raised, glossy center ring
•    Color: Yellow with red or maroon zebra-like stripes
•    Blooming season: Late summer to fall
•    Fragrance: Some flowers have a slightly unpleasant smell (to attract pollinating flies).
______________
🌞 Light Requirements
•    Prefers bright, indirect sunlight or partial shade.
•    Too much direct sun can cause the stems to turn reddish or brown.
•    Indoors, place it near a south or east-facing window.
______________
💧 Watering
•    Water sparingly—allow soil to dry completely between waterings.
•    Overwatering is the most common cause of root rot.
•    In winter, reduce watering to once every 3–4 weeks.
______________
🌱 Soil
•    Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix.
•    You can mix in perlite, pumice, or coarse sand for better drainage.
______________
🌡️ Temperature
•    Thrives in warm temperatures: 20–32°C (68–90°F).
•    Protect from cold—temperatures below 10°C (50°F) can damage the plant.
______________
🌸 Propagation
•    Easiest by stem cuttings:
1.    Cut a healthy stem and let it dry for 1–2 days.
2.    Plant it in dry, well-draining soil.
3.    Water lightly after a week.
•    Can also be grown from seeds, but this takes longer.
______________
🪴 Care Tips
•    Avoid standing water in pots—ensure good drainage holes.
•    Fertilize lightly during the growing season (spring–summer) with a diluted succulent fertilizer.
