Graptoveria ‘Opalina’ is a stunning hybrid succulent, a cross between Graptopetalum paraguayense and Echeveria colorata. It’s a popular ornamental plant because of its beautiful pastel tones, easy care, and elegant rosette shape.
🌿 Appearance
· Rosette Shape: Forms neat, rounded rosettes that can grow up to 6 inches (15 cm) across.
· Leaves: Thick, smooth, and slightly pointed with a powdery, pastel coating (farina) that gives a soft, opalescent glow—hence the name Opalina.
· Color: Leaves are pale blue-green with pink to lavender edges, especially when grown in bright light or cooler weather.
· Growth: Can produce offsets (“pups”) at the base, forming small clusters over time.
🌞 Light Requirements
· Prefers bright sunlight for best color.
· Outdoor: Full sun to partial shade.
· Indoor: Place near a bright, sunny window (south or east-facing).
· Too little light will make the plant lose its pink tones and stretch out (etiolation).
💧 Watering
· Use the “soak and dry” method: water deeply, then allow the soil to dry completely before watering again.
· Reduce watering in winter when the plant’s growth slows.
· Avoid letting water sit on the rosette to prevent rot.
🪴 Soil
· Needs well-draining soil, such as a cactus or succulent mix.
· You can add perlite, coarse sand, or pumice to improve drainage.
🌡️ Temperature
· Thrives in temperatures between 18–27°C (65–80°F).
· Not frost-tolerant—if you live in a cold area, keep it indoors during winter (above 10°C / 50°F).
🌸 Flowers
· Blooms in spring to early summer.
· Produces small, yellow-orange star-shaped flowers on tall stems that rise above the rosette.
🌱 Propagation
· Easily propagated from leaf cuttings, offsets, or stem cuttings.
· Let cuttings dry for a day or two before planting in dry soil to prevent rot.
