Graptoveria ‘Fred Ives’ is a stunning hybrid succulent known for its brilliant colors, large rosettes, and easy care. It’s a cross between Graptopetalum paraguayense and Echeveria gibbiflora, combining the best traits of both parent plants.

🌿 Appearance

  • Rosettes: Large, open rosettes up to 8 inches (20 cm) across.
  • Leaves: Thick, fleshy, and slightly pointed leaves that shift in color depending on sunlight—ranging from lavender, pink, orange, yellow, blue-green, to bronze tones.
  • Color: Brighter and more intense in full sun, softer and more pastel in shade.
  • Flowers: Produces small orange-yellow blooms on tall stalks during spring and summer.

🌞 Light Requirements

  • Prefers bright light or full sun for several hours a day.
  • Grows best outdoors with morning or late afternoon sun.
  • Indoors, place near a south- or west-facing window.

💧 Watering

  • Use the “soak and dry” method: water thoroughly, then allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again.
  • Avoid overwatering — root rot is the most common problem.

🌱 Soil

  • Needs well-draining soil, such as a cactus/succulent mix or sandy soil.
  • You can mix perlite or pumice for extra drainage.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

  • Thrives in warm, dry conditions.
  • Ideal temperature range: 18–27°C (65–80°F).
  • Protect from frost (below 5°C / 40°F).

🌸 Propagation

  • Easily propagated from leaf cuttings, offsets, or stem cuttings.
  • Let cuttings dry for a day or two before planting in dry soil.

🪴 Care Tips

  • Remove old, dried leaves at the base to keep the rosette healthy.
  • Feed lightly with a balanced fertilizer diluted to half strength once during the growing season (spring/summer).
  • Rotate the pot occasionally for even sunlight exposure.

💖 Fun Fact

Graptoveria ‘Fred Ives’ is often used in colorful succulent arrangements and rock gardens because of its constantly changing leaf hues — making it one of the most visually striking succulents available.
