Echeveria 'Tippy Variegata' is a variegated form of the popular Echeveria 'Tippy' succulent.

  • Genus: Echeveria
  • Family: Crassulaceae
  • Origin: Hybrid (exact parentage uncertain, but Echeveria agavoides and Echeveria derenbergii are believed contributors)

🌿 Appearance

  • Rosette shape: Compact, symmetrical, and slightly pointed leaves (like a soft star).
  • Size: Usually 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) across.
  • Color:
    • Base leaf color: Pale green to blue-green.
    • Variegation: Cream, yellow, or pink streaks or patches on the leaves.
    • Leaf tips: Often have a reddish or coral pink point, especially under bright light.
  • Flowers: Bell-shaped, coral-pink with yellow interiors, appearing in spring or early summer on tall stalks.

☀️ Care Requirements

Factor

Ideal Conditions

Light

Bright, indirect light or 4–6 hrs of morning sun. Avoid harsh afternoon sun which can scorch variegated leaves.

Watering

“Soak and dry” method — let soil dry completely before watering again. Overwatering = root rot.

Soil

Fast-draining cactus/succulent mix. Add perlite or pumice for extra drainage.

Temperature

Prefers 18–27°C (65–80°F). Protect from frost (below 5°C / 40°F).

Humidity

Low to moderate. Too much moisture can lead to rot.

Fertilizer

Once a month in spring/summer with diluted succulent fertilizer (¼ strength).

🌱 Propagation

  • Leaf cuttings or offsets (pups) are easiest.
  • Variegated forms may revert to green — so choose offsets that maintain variegation for consistent coloring.

⚠️ Common Issues

  • Etiolation (stretching): Not enough sunlight.
  • Rot: From overwatering or poor drainage.
  • Color fading: Too little light or overfertilizing.
  • Variegation loss: Natural reversion — prune and propagate from variegated parts.
