Scientific name: Echeveria lilacina
Common name: Ghost Echeveria
Family: Crassulaceae (the same family as jade plants and sedums)
Origin: Native to Nuevo León, Mexico

🌿 Appearance

  • Rosette shape: Forms a perfectly symmetrical rosette, often 6–10 inches (15–25 cm) across.
  • Leaves: Thick, spoon-shaped, and smooth with a pale silvery-gray to lilac hue—that’s where it gets the “lilacina” name.
  • Surface: Covered in a fine powdery coating (called farina) that gives it a soft, matte, almost ghostly look.
  • Flowers: In late winter to early spring, it sends up tall arching stems with pale pink to coral-colored blooms.

☀️ Growing Conditions

Light:

  • Prefers bright light or full sun (at least 6 hours daily).
  • Indoors: Place near a sunny south- or west-facing window.
  • Outdoors: Gradually acclimate to avoid sunburn.

Soil:

  • Use well-draining cactus or succulent mix.
  • You can improve drainage by adding perlite or coarse sand.

Watering:

  • Follow the “soak and dry” method — water thoroughly when the soil is completely dry.
  • In winter, reduce watering since it goes semi-dormant.

Temperature:

  • Ideal: 65–80°F (18–27°C).
  • Protect from frost — it’s not cold-hardy below ~40°F (4°C).

Humidity:

  • Prefers dry air; excess humidity can cause rot.

🌱 Care Tips

  • Avoid getting water on the leaves — it can leave spots or cause rot.
  • Don’t remove the farina (the powder) — it naturally protects the plant from sun and moisture loss.
  • Propagation is easy via leaf cuttings or offsets (baby rosettes).
  • Fertilize lightly in spring/summer with a diluted succulent fertilizer.
