🪴 Crassula Jade (Kuber) Plant Overview

Scientific Name: Crassula ovata
Common Names: Jade Plant, Lucky Plant, Money Plant (not to be confused with Epipremnum aureum), Kuber Plant, Friendship Tree
Family: Crassulaceae
Type: Succulent perennial

🌱 Description

The Crassula Jade Plant is a fleshy, evergreen succulent with thick, glossy, oval-shaped leaves that are typically deep green (sometimes with a red edge). The plant has a tree-like growth habit, developing a woody stem as it matures, giving it the look of a miniature tree.

When well-cared for, mature Jade plants produce clusters of small white or pink star-shaped flowers, usually in winter.

🌞 Care and Growing Conditions

Aspect

Ideal Conditions

Light

Bright, indirect sunlight or partial sun; can tolerate full sun once acclimated.

Watering

Water sparingly — allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Overwatering causes root rot.

Soil

Well-draining cactus or succulent mix. Avoid heavy or clayey soil.

Temperature

Prefers 18–30°C (65–85°F). Protect from frost.

Fertilizer

Monthly feeding during growing season (spring–summer) with diluted succulent fertilizer.

Propagation

Very easy! Root leaf or stem cuttings in dry soil.

🌸 Symbolism and Beliefs (Why It’s Called “Kuber Plant”)

In Vastu Shastra and Feng Shui, the Jade plant is associated with:

  • Wealth and prosperity (linked to Lord Kuber, the Hindu god of wealth)
  • Good luck and positive energy
  • Business success and financial growth

People often place it:

  • Near the entrance of homes or offices (to attract prosperity)
  • On the south-east corner (the “money area” in Vastu and Feng Shui)

💡 Quick Tips

  • Avoid overwatering — this is the #1 mistake.
  • Rotate the plant occasionally so it grows evenly.
  • Clean leaves to help them photosynthesize better.
  • If leaves wrinkle or shrivel — it needs water. If leaves fall off or become mushy — it’s overwatered.
