Crassula ‘Campfire’ (Bare Rooted)

Here’s a detailed overview of the “Campfire” succulent — especially the bare-rooted version being offered — covering what it is, how to care for it, and what to watch out for.

What is it?

  • It’s a succulent known for its vivid foliage: the leaves start green and under strong light or cooler temperatures turn bright red/orange.
  • The term “bare rooted” means the plant is shipped/arrived without being planted in soil/pot; roots exposed or cleaned of soil. This requires you to pot it in a proper medium on arrival. For example, one listing says: “The plant you will receive bare-rooted without pot and soil.

Appearance & Growth

  • Leaves: Succulent, fleshy, somewhat propeller-shaped or stacked; when exposed to good light they turn flamboyant red or orange
  • Growth habit: Spreading mats or clumps, stems may trail or root at nodes if they touch soil. Height typically modest.
  • Flowers: Small star-shaped, white to pale, often appear on upright stems.

Care Guide

Since it’s bare rooted, you’ll need to pot it up and then care for it correctly to get the best effect.

1. Potting/Planting

  • Since the plant is bare rooted, after unpacking, let it air dry for a little bit (a few hours) before planting — this helps roots settle.
  • Use a pot with drainage holes to avoid water logging.

2. Light

  • Needs bright light. For best red/orange colour, full sun or a few hours of strong sun is best. “Full sun to partial shade” is recommended.
  • Indoors: place near a south or west‐facing window (in northern hemisphere) to get as much bright light as possible.

3. Watering

  • Use the “soak & dry” method: When you water, water thoroughly, let excess drain out, and then allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again.
  • Since it’s bare rooted and newly planted, in the first few days keep watering lighter until roots establish.
  • In winter or cooler periods, reduce watering frequency.

4. Temperature & Humidity

  • It prefers warm conditions, typical for succulents. Frost or very cold temperatures can damage it. One source says it will be damaged below ~30 °F (~‐1 °C}
  • In India / Uttarakhand region: you’d want to protect it from heavy cold if you keep it outdoors in winter (depending on altitude).
  • Humidity: Succulents generally do fine in average humidity; avoid keeping soil constantly wet.

5. Fertilizer

  • Feed sparingly. E.g., during the active growing season (spring/summer) use a diluted succulent/cactus fertilizer monthly. One Indian site: feed once a month during growing season; no fertiliser needed in winter.

6. Propagation & Maintenance

  • Easily propagated via stem cuttings or offsets. Allow cuttings to callous a day or two before planting
  • Maintenance: Remove dead or withered leaves. If the plant becomes leggy or stretched, increase light or repot.
