Scientific name: Bergeranthus sp.
Family: Aizoaceae (the Ice Plant family)

🌿 General Description

Bergeranthus is a small genus of compact, clump-forming succulents known for their fleshy, triangular leaves and bright, daisy-like flowers. These plants are native to the dry, rocky areas of South Africa and are well adapted to arid conditions.

They are often grown for their charming appearance and abundant blooms, which can appear in shades of yellow, orange, or pink during spring and summer.

🌱 Plant Appearance

  • Leaves: Fleshy, thick, and triangular with smooth surfaces; arranged in small rosettes.
  • Color: Usually bright green to grey-green.
  • Flowers: Daisy-like with numerous slender petals; typically yellow and open in bright sunlight.
  • Growth: Forms low-growing clumps or mats — ideal for rock gardens or pots.

🌤️ Light Requirements

  • Prefers full sun to partial sunlight.
  • More sunlight brings better leaf color and more flowers.
  • Indoors, place near a south- or west-facing window.

💧 Watering

  • Water sparingly. Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings.
  • In winter (dormant season), reduce watering even more.
  • Overwatering can cause root rot — the most common problem.

🪴 Soil

  • Needs well-draining soil, like a cactus/succulent mix.
  • You can mix regular potting soil with sand or perlite (1:1 ratio).

🌡️ Temperature

  • Prefers warm conditions (20–30°C).
  • Protect from frost — not cold-hardy below 5°C.

🌸 Flowering

  • Blooms mostly in spring and summer.
  • Flowers open in bright daylight and close in the evening.
  • Proper sunlight encourages more blooms.

🌿 Propagation

  • Easily propagated by leaf cuttings, stem cuttings, or division of clumps.
  • Let cuttings dry for a day before planting in well-draining soil.

⚠️ Common Problems

  • Overwatering → root rot
  • Low light → weak growth and no flowers
  • Pests: Rarely attacked, but may get mealybugs or aphids occasionally.
